John Henry Haney

1925 - 2010

John Henry was John & Martha's second child.

John quit school after the 8th grade. At 16 he moved to Webster County and worked on a farm. He quickly learned how to carry two 80 pound cans of milk and loading them onto trucks using his whole body. After a year John bought the milk route. A year later, at 18,  he sold the route and joined the U. S. Navy serving  in WWII.  Mahala, his grandmother, died in 1943, the year John Henry went into the service. He was notified of her death, was given a 7 or 10 day leave but she was buried the day before he got back to Conway. Of all Mahala's siblings, John only remembers meeting Mahala's brother Wallace, who lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma working in the oil fields. His complexion was much darker than Mahala's.

John and Ruby were married in February 1945, just months before his father, John, died and a couple weeks before Wilma Marie was born.  Most of John's adult life he worked for the City Utility Department. He retired after 34 years. In 1958, John had surgery on a stomach ulcer and 2/3rds of his stomach was removed.  In 1995, John had 5-valve open heart surgery and is doing wonderful. John visits relatives in Longview WA annually, several times Linda has come with him and one time Jim came with him. The year before Virgil died John visited Longview three times.
